What to do After a Car Accident
At one time or another in your life you will be involved in a car accident and it will be to your benefit to know how
to handle the situation properly. Here are a few key do's and dont's that will help minimize the damage:
- Safety - Make sure that no one in your car is critically injured and get out of the way of any pending dangers. If
everything is OK, check on the other driver(s) involved
- Assess the Situation - Take pictures of the damaged cars with a camera and determine if police officer assistance is needed
- Exchange Information - When involved in an accident, drivers should exchange the following information: Name, phone number,
drivers license number, insurance company, license plate number, make/model of car, etc.
- Don't Admit Guilt - Even if you think you are at fault, leave that up to the police and insurance companies to determine who was actually at fault.
- Call your Insurance Company - Let them know you were in an accident and only state what happened and leave out your personal opinion
- Examine Your Policy - Read up on the conditions of your car insurance policy so you can know what to expect
from you insurance agent and if things don't make sense, ask until you understand
