Alter Car Insurance Coverages to Save Money
Finding the right type of car insurance coverage may be harder than people typically think. There are so many
different kinds of coverages, including bodily injury, property damage, uninsured driver protection, underinsured
motorist protection, as well as many others, and they can make it difficult to decide how much of which coverage you really
need. The two most important types of coverages are the property damage and the bodily injury coverage, since
practically all accidents, big or small, involve one or both of those items. If you drive an older, used car that
isn't worth very much, it may be more beneficial to skip the comprehensive and collision coverage. The trick is to
find the balance of coverages you think you need the most.
What to Consider:
- Comprehensive - Unless you live in a city where crime and vandalism is rampant, it may be more efficient to skip this type of coverage
- Collision - If you drive an older car that is of little value, it may be a waste to spend money on collision coverage
- Uninsured Motorist - This one is a tough call. If you think you live in a place where lots of people drive without insurance, you probably will want to have this coverage
- Bodily Injury Liability - In most accidents, having a $100,000/$300,000 coverage is sufficient
- Property Damage Liability - Most people choose a limit close to the figure $50,000
- Emergency Road Service - Can you fix a flat? Is your car running well? Live near some friends? You may not need this coverage
- Rental Reimbursement - Do you only have access to one car? Is having a car the only way you can get around? If not, save some money and skip the coverage
